Who we are
Alton Towers Queue Alert is a free Android app created by Food, Fitness & Family. It shows live queue times for Alton Towers and sends optional notifications about queues, ride status and park hours.
This app is an independent fan project and is not affiliated with Alton Towers, Merlin Entertainments or any of their partners.
What we collect
The app has no accounts and collects no names, email addresses, phone numbers or advertising identifiers. The only data stored on our server is:
- A push-notification token — an anonymous identifier issued by Google Firebase, needed to deliver notifications to your device.
- Your notification settings — which rides you have favourited, your queue-time thresholds, and whether notifications are paused.
- A welcome date — if the app greeted you at the park, the calendar date of that visit (used once, to send the end-of-day goodbye message).
None of this identifies you personally, and none of it is ever sold, shared or used for advertising or analytics.
Location
If you grant location permission, your location is used for exactly one feature: welcoming you when you arrive at Alton Towers.
- Location is processed entirely on your device, and only while the app is open on screen.
- Your location is never transmitted to, or stored on, our servers — only the fact that a welcome occurred (a date) is synced.
- Location is optional. Every other feature works without it, and you can revoke the permission at any time in Android Settings.
Third-party services
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging delivers push notifications. Google's handling of the delivery is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.
- themeparks.wiki provides the live queue data. The app fetches it directly from your device, so that service sees your IP address in the same way any website you visit does.
The app contains no advertising or analytics SDKs.
Data retention & deletion
- You can delete your data at any time in the app: ℹ️ Information → Delete my data. This immediately removes your device's record (token, settings and welcome date) from our server and resets the app.
- Device records whose notification token becomes invalid (for example after the app is uninstalled) are deleted automatically.
- Historical queue statistics relate to rides, not people, and contain no personal data.
Security
All traffic between the app and our server uses HTTPS. Notification tokens are stored hashed for lookup, and server access to stored data is restricted.
Children
The app is suitable for a general audience, collects no personal information from anyone, and shows no advertising.
